There is nothing currently coming out of Everton to suggest that they will be active in the remainder of this transfer window.
And having forked out a lot of money in the summer on the likes of Richarlison and Yerry Mina, it would not be a surprise if the Merseyside club’s inactivity did not change.
The above, however, has not stopped Everton from being linked with a bunch of players including Southampton’s Cedric Soares.
As good as he has been down years, Seamus Coleman is on the decline leaving Everton now needing a contingency plan with Cedric being exactly the sort of player the club should be looking at.
Cedric, who joined Southampton back in 2015 when former Everton boss Ronald Koeman was still in the St. Mary’s dugout, has been one of the leading right-backs in the Premier League since his arrival in England.
The 27-year-old provides so much energy down the right wing, bombing up and down his flank to win tackles and put dangerous balls into the box.
In his three full campaigns in English football’s top flight, he has had some difficult moments both individually and collectively. But overall, Cedric is the kind of modern-day full-back every manger, including Silva, wants in his starting XI.
The Euro 2016 winner worked under his compatriot at Sporting Lisbon, and a reunion is something the duo could both probably do with.
While Everton are in need of a new right-back, Cedric arguably needs a new challenge befitting his level with Southampton now looking very much like a team who will be competing at the wrong end of the table.
Alongside Lucas Digne on the opposite side, the Portugal international could help form and give Everton one of the best full-back pairings in the Premier League.
