What does the future hold for Christian Eriksen at Tottenham?

At Tottenham, Harry Kane and Dele Alli are usually identified by many as the club’s two most important players.

However, over the last few years, Christian Eriksen has also shown how valuable he is to the team.

The Denmark international has managed to bag 10 or more Premier League assists in each of the previous three seasons, while he was also able to score 10 goals both last term and back in the 2014/15 campaign.

And albeit it can feel like it at times, it appears Eriksen’s form in a Tottenham shirt has not gone unnoticed with Real Madrid said to be interested in bringing him to the Santiago Bernabeu next summer.

According to Cope (via Sport), the current Champions League holders see Eriksen as the ideal man to eventually succeed Luka Modric in the middle of the park and have made him their primary target to strengthen their team ahead of the likes of Chelsea star man Eden Hazard and Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar.

Given their failure to sign a galactico during the summer and the poor run of form they currently find themselves in, there is every expectation that Real Madrid will spend heavily ahead of the 2019/20 season.

And if that does indeed turn out to be the case, adding Eriksen to their shopping list makes perfect sense.

While he is currently playing in a more advanced role, it is not hard to imagine Eriksen thriving in a similar midfield position to Modric with his vision, passing and long-range shooting ability.

Like-for-like, there are not too many midfielders who can influence matches from midfield the way Modric can.

But in Eriksen, Real Madrid would still be getting a player capable of having a major impact on games — just in another way.

As for Eriksen on a personal level, there is no reason not to join the La Liga giants should they come knocking. The chance to compete for major honours, line up alongside world-class players and earn a larger financial package will surely be too hard to turn down for the Tottenham man.

With all of that in mind, a move to the Bernabeu could be ideal for both Eriksen and Real Madrid going forward.
