After a summer where Tottenham Hotspur failed to bring in any new players, what Mauricio Pochettino has done with his squad is very impressive.
Although Pochettino must’ve have been expecting more players to join the club, the Argentine has managed to take the club to third in the table while also guiding them through to the next round of the Champions League.
In a group with Barcelona, Inter Milan and PSV Eindhoven, it was going to be incredibly tough for the north London side to qualify but after Milan failed to beat PSV, Spurs scrapped through to the round of 16.
As we approach the January transfer window, however, Spurs must dip into the transfer market in order to freshen up the side. Tottenham have had one of the better sides in the league over the years but it seems as though the club may need to bring in some replacements for some of the players in the near future.
One player who could soon be on his way out is out of the club is England international, Danny Rose.
The fullback did make the World Cup squad over the summer but has only played 10 games this season due to injury. Over the last few years, Rose has struggled with injuries, namely a serious knee ligament problem and therefore, he has fallen out of the first XI.
At one time, Rose was considered one of the best fullbacks in the league and had formed arguably the best fullback partnerships in the league in tandem with Kyle Walker. Since the pinnacle of his career, Pochettino has played Ben Davies as the starter in his place.
Davies may not have the pace of Rose but what he is, is a very well-rounded player. At 25, he has his best years ahead of him but Tottenham need a reliable performer to back him up. Rose is 28 and in the prime of his career but due to injury struggles, it remains to be seen how much of a future he has at the club.
Rose represents an era where Spurs challenged for the title but in truth, his time has passed. Pochettino must look to replace him in the near future to give Spurs some fresh blood in the squad.
