What does the future hold for Danny Welbeck? Should he remain at Arsenal beyond the summer if he is handed a new deal or should he look at considering his options and look at moving away from the Gunners?
Those are certainly some of the decisions that the England international forward will have had to think about over the course of the current campaign, however, Raul Sanllehi and Unai Emery must look to help him with it as much as they can and convince him it is in north London.
According to a report by The Mirror, the Gunners are thought to be considering to offer him a new contract to extend his stay in north London further amid Premier League interest from the likes of Everton, Newcastle United and West Ham United.
And, it is definitely something Sanllehi and Emery should do without delaying for too much longer.
Arsenal have become a farce of a club when it comes to the senior figures at the top in recent history and you do not have to go back to far to see glaring evidence of the mistakes they have made when it comes down to contracts and issues that have arisen – just look at Aaron Ramsey.
Welbeck is a useful squad member and one that can provide the difference at crucial times in matches when things are not going as planned. The experienced attacker is hugely versatile, whilst he is also a model professional that seems prepared to wait for his chance to make an impact, which can be quite rare in the modern game.
Still only 28-years-old (although he feels as though he has been involved in football forever), the former Manchester United striker has an excellent record when it comes to being clinical in front of goal. He has featured 126 times for Arenal and scored 32 goals, while at the Red Devils he played 143 times recording 29 goals, although there is room for improvement.
He is a proven goalscorer, however, he also has the ability to create chances out of nothing and provide his team with a spark that allows them to get forward and take control of games. He is more than capable of making an impact from the substitutes bench as well, which is a lot easier said than done for a number of footballers.
Welbeck’s injuries over the years are an obvious cause for concern, however, he has shown in the past that he can get back into the swing of things rather quickly and make an immediate mark when returning to action.
He is allegedly a player that Emery likes to have in his squad and is also hugely popular in the dressing room, which makes it all the more important that Sanllehi and the manager do all they can to keep him at the Emirates Stadium beyond the summer. A player of his ability being available on a free transfer is not going to remain without a deal for too long.
So, what does the future hold for Welbeck? Well, Arsenal must make sure it’s with them.
