He’s had quite the season, hasn’t he? Indeed, it is crazy to think that this is Harry Wilson’s breakout campaign (it seems like he’s been an exciting Liverpool youngster for a long time) such has been the quality of his performance.
Obviously, Wilson has spent time with Crewe Alexandra and Hull City before on short-term loans, both helping him to mature as a player in their own ways. However, his loan at Derby County has not only been the most beneficial, but also the most productive as he has netted 18 goals and provided six assists across all competitions.
Now, the stats can sometimes be misleading into the suggestion that Wilson has been on top of his game every minute of the season. He has been inconsistent at times, which is understandable for a player who is still just 22, but even still Wilson has managed to play a key role in the Rams’ journey so far and rightfully gets all the plaudits he deserves.
After the play-off final, his loan will come to a close though which poses the question as to what does the future hold for Wilson?
Well, with the options his parent club currently have on the wing, there is a slim chance of him mustering up consistent game time which is vital for his development. As much as any Kopite reading this would surely love to see him in the squad next season, the club are reportedly (per the Daily Mail) looking to sign a versatile attacker this summer, only increasing the competition for places on Merseyside.
If Derby were to go up, to bring back Wilson on either a loan or potentially even a permanent deal as a result of the finances gained from promotion could be a distinct possibility. At a club understands what it means to play for, with a fanbase he has a connection with, it could provide to be a fantastic move.
If not with Derby though, his future could lie elsewhere as there will surely (per Sky Sports) be numerous Premier League clubs keeping tabs on his situation.
Wilson will be more than focused on the play-off final on Monday, but beyond that, a lot could change in regards to his future in a short space of time. Indeed, things could get tricky for Liverpool if interest does indeed mount, with their player emerging as one of the most sought-after prospects in British football.
