Chelsea managed to make it into the semi-final of the Carabao Cup recently as they got the better of Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues currently find themselves in a promising position in the race for a top-four spot, along with the opportunity to secure silverware in Europe and domestic cup competitions.
Indeed, after splashing the cash on Kepa Arrizabalaga back in the summer months, it remains to be seen as to whether Roman Abramovich will be looking to splash a large amount of cash at any point in the next year.
Interestingly, one player that has been linked with a move to Chelsea is Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly. The 27-year-old has established himself as one of the best defenders in the whole of world football, having impressed in Europe and domestically over the past couple of years.
But, the Blues aren’t the only team showing an interest as Manchester United reportedly had a £95 million bid rejected by Napoli prior to Jose Mourinho’s sacking, so it’s clear to see that the Red Devils are willing to go all out to secure the services of the central defender.
However, he will not be departing in the January transfer window, but Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has admitted that they might not be able to stand in the 27-year-old’s way should he want to move on
Manchester United have struggled to keep things tight at the back this season, with Koulibaly being a long-term target of theirs.
So, with the Blues making use of David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger at the heart of the defence at this moment in time, perhaps Abramovich should empty his pockets to sign Koulibaly, who could easily take things to the next level at Stamford Bridge.
Indeed, David Luiz has been solid for the Blues this season, but supporters have been used to having world-class players like John Terry in defensive areas in years gone by, so it’s about time the Blues went all out to land a top-tier player.
There’s no doubt that securing the services of a player of Koulibaly’s calibre could quite literally put them back among Europe’s elite, with his pace, strength and aerial ability making him one of the very best. Maurizio Sarri wouldn’t have to worry about the opposition with the Senegalese international in their ranks, as he has dealt with some of the world’s best attackers in Europe and domestically.
