Newcastle fans hate Mike Ashley, and it seems that with the way he runs the club, Mike Ashley probably also hates Newcastle fans. The businessman is a deeply rooted cancer at St. James’ Park, with his lack of investment and negligence, slowly killing the club from within, and it has to be just a matter of time before he sells up.
The city, the football club and the fans are all suffering, and have been for a long time. The training facilities and academy that the Magpies have are shambolic and in need of a revamp, but once again that’s something that Ashley isn’t prepared to shell out for. One day, the Geordies are just hoping that he gets bored of profiting at their expense and will leave, but what does the future hold for Mike Ashley?
St. James’ Park was once a proud Premier League ground, full of history and life. Now it’s just a shell of what it was, plastered all over in Sports Direct advertising that the fans are all pretty sure isn’t being paid for. On the pitch, Rafa Benitez is keeping the club together, but if Ashley is to allow the Spaniard to leave then he’ll be shooting himself in the foot in a way that even he can’t afford to do.
The 54-year-old has come in for plenty of stick from Newcastle fans and the footballing community over the years but nothing seems to have deterred him from doing what he’s doing. He continues to drive Newcastle into the ground and seems remorseless as he does so. One day, it will have to come to an end, though, and with Ashley’s continued spending as he buys struggling chains he may eventually sell Newcastle to continue his mission of saving the high street.
The day that Newcastle United are rid of Ashley will be a massive one. Rumours are always flying that a takeover could be near but it’s usually something spun by the owner himself to avoid having to fork out cash in a transfer window, and that alone sums up what sort of bloke we’re dealing with. With that in mind, the best possible outcome for both Ashley and the club would be to part ways and the future for Ashley must see him selling up.
