What does the future hold for Morgan Schneiderlin at Everton?

Enduring such a difficult spell at Everton since arriving from Manchester United back in 2017, Morgan Schneiderlin had looked to have turned a corner under his new boss Marco Silva.

Not only did the Frenchman feature in the Toffees’ first couple of Premier League fixtures this season, but he also impressed in them.

£18m-rated (Transfermarkt) Schneiderlin was moving the ball much quicker with the 29-year-old often criticised in the past for being laboured in possession while, overall, he just looked like a better midfielder in general.

However, since then, Schneiderlin has been nowhere to be seen and now faces an impossible task of getting into Silva’s starting XI on a regular basis given the form of the side’s other midfielders.

As ever, Idrissa Gueye has been tireless in the middle of the park, harrying down opposition players left, right and centre before winning the ball back for the Toffees, while his midfield partner Andre Gomes has simply been different class.

Gomes joined Everton on loan from Barcelona over the summer, but injury has meant the Portuguese playmaker has only been able to come into the frame recently. However, he has done so to devastating effect, leaving Schneiderlin firmly on the fringes.

Unlike the France international who can be guilty of being too slow on the ball and passing sideways, Gomes plays in a very progressive manner.

The 25-year-old constantly looks to pass forwards and through the lines, which will only benefit the likes of Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Considering that alone, Schneiderlin has no chance of getting into the Everton starting XI ahead of Gomes.

Furthermore, an exit is now almost certain to be on the cards for Schneiderlin. And having failed at both Manchester United and Everton despite showing so much promise at Southampton, a move away from the Premier League may be in his best interest as he looks to relaunch his career.
