What does the future hold for Nicolo Barella at Cagliari?

Chelsea have looked impressive in cup competitions recently, but they’ll be desperate to improve on their last Premier League result as they lost to Arsenal at the Emirates recently.

The Blues will still fancy themselves to secure a top four spot in the current campaign, having already managed to strengthen by adding Gonzalo Higuain to their ranks this month.

Although, one position that could do with some improving is in the middle of midfield, as the likes of Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley have been quite hit-and-miss under Maurizio Sarri.

Interestingly, the Blues may have identified the perfect man for their midfield, as The Telegraph reported that Cagliari’s Nicolo Barella is a January transfer target for Chelsea.

Indeed, the 21-year-old has already received praise from a couple of Italian legends, as Andrea Pirlo and Alessandro Del Piero reportedly (as per BBC) couldn’t stop talking about him at one point.

Italian football journalist Mina Rzouki once stated this:

“Barella is very much being spoken about, not just in Italy, but around Europe with the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool tracking his progress. Inter and Juve are at war about trying to bring him in, while Andrea Pirlo and Alessandro del Piero can’t stop talking about him.”

Indeed, a certain Andrea Pirlo also called him ‘one of the best in Italy’.

Of course, the Italian youngster must be a special talent to have one of the best midfielders to have ever graced the game rave about his ability. So, surely this provides the Blues with plenty of incentive to go out and secure the midfielder, knowing that he’s been backed by two footballing legends.

Sarri already has two of the world’s best midfielders at his disposal in the form of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante, so  Abramovich would put Chelsea’s midfield among the world’s best by landing the Italian as they’d have the perfect balance. Kante’s tackling, ability to intercept and dogged approach, combined with Jorginho’s passing ability and Barella’s dribbling, tenacious tackling and creativity would make their midfield both unbreachable and unstoppable.

After making an impressive start to his Italy career, Nicolo Barella is now undoubtedly one of the most coveted young players in world football. He also has previous experience of playing alongside Jorginho on the international stage with Italy, so they’ve already built a strong bond.
