Since his emergence as a prodigy at Liverpool, Raheem Sterling has at times been labelled as one of the star players of the Premier League but also one of the most heavily criticised.
Joining Man City for £49 million three years ago, Sterling left Liverpool in somewhat acrimonious circumstances after requesting to leave the club. When he joined City, the youngster was a lightning quick winger who formed one of the most deadly attacks in Europe with Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.
During his time at Man City, however, he has turned into a typical hybrid attacking midfielder who loves to come inside and join in City’s devastating attack. His game has developed incredibly under Pep and last year he enjoyed his best attacking output of his career as he scored 18 goals to go with 15 assists.
With Sterling playing at that high level, City formed one of the most dominant Premier League champions in the modern era, as they broke the 100 point mark and stormed to the league title.
So far this season, the English forward has scored four goals in seven games but following a tough and long World Cup campaign, he’s yet to reach the level he achieved last year.
However, Sterling is now in the last two years of his contract and as of yet, there seems to be no advance on the two parties’ stalemate. According to reports, the City star has attracted interest from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez who is willing to pay £100 million for the man who tore Spain apart last week.
At just 23, it’s staggering how much potential Sterling has to fulfil as he’s already become one of the best players in the league before even reaching his prime. While Madrid may be seen as the pinnacle of any player’s career, with Pep Guardiola at the club and with so many brilliant young stars alongside him, Sterling would be a fool not to sign a new deal to remain at City.Like what the TT have on offer?
