Newcastle fans would be absolutely devastated to lose out on Salomon Rondon. The big Venezuelan striker is currently on-loan at St James Park in a move that has seen Dwight Gayle go to West Bromwich Albion on loan the other way. However, as the season draws to a close the future of the Magpies’ big man is a worrying one.
When Rondon signed it was clear that he was the man whose goals were going to be relied upon to keep them in the Premier League. So far in the top flight this season he’s bagged nine, but with six assists to his name too he’s proven to be the complete package at St. James’ Park, and he simply must be signed permanently, no matter the cost, if the Magpies want success.
Lee Charnley recently came out with some comments on Rondon, but his words only further increased the speculation over his future instead of helping to quell the fears that the striker wouldn’t be resigned. Fans can read what Charnley had to say on The Chronicle, but with Charnley acting as nothing more than one of Mike Ashley’s cronies, can the fans really believe anything that man comes out with?
Rondon’s future is one that the Magpies cannot afford to become a talking point. Any club who are facing a relegation battle will surely be eyeing up the South American after seeing how well he’s performed for the Geordies, and rightly so. However, given the way the fans have taken to the 29-year-old, he will surely be swinging towards a move to Tyneside on a permanent basis.
Whatever happens, the only outcome that the fans will accept is one that sees Rondon holding up yet another Newcastle shirt and posing for a smile with Rafa Benitez, preferably with a three or four year deal signed, but even another loan deal will do as the fans care, as they just want the promise of seeing Rondon in black and white next season.
