What does the future hold for Sead Kolasinac at Arsenal?

Having arrived at the Emirates from Schalke on a free transfer last summer, it is probably fair to say not all Arsenal supporters were delighted with Arsene Wenger’s capture of Sead Kolasinac.

However, it did not take long for opinions to change with the 25-year-old netting on his debut in the 2017/18 Community Shield encounter versus Chelsea which the Gunners went on to win.

As for life in the Premier League, Kolasinac also made an early impression, putting in some colossal performances from left-back. As the season progressed, though, and with Wenger alternating between a back four and back three, the former Schalke man failed to stay in the team on a consistent basis.

While this campaign under Unai Emery, he looked to be in a similar predicament with Nacho Monreal performing to his usual high standard in the left-back position.

However, an injury to the Spaniard has since seen Kolasinac come into the side where he has absolutely thrived with his display in Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Tottenham in the recent north London derby being one of his best in a red shirt.

Defensively, £16.2m-rated (Transfermarkt) Kolasinac was pretty sound with the Bosnia and Herzegovina international performing well enough for Tottenham to concentrate their efforts attacking down the middle and on Hector Bellerin’s flank.

But on top of that, Kolasinac was also effective when attacking as he bulldozed past Moussa Sissoko and Serge Aurier, which is by no means an easy feat given the pace and power of the two Tottenham men.

With Monreal having now recovered from his injury, every expectation is that the Spain international will regain and maintain his spot in the starting XI.

But at 32 years of age and having not signed an extension on his current deal which expires at the end of the season, Arsenal could soon be looking for a Monreal replacement. In Kolasinac, though, they may already have one, one who could save them millions.
