Tottenham Hotspur’s biggest match in the club’s history is almost upon us. Indeed, there is obviously a mixture of nerves and excitement as the game approaches as they look to celebrate getting one over on Liverpool in Madrid on Saturday. What a story.
Just imagine the sound of ‘Tottenham Hotspur – Champions League winners!’ Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?
So, as the title of the article states, what does the future hold for Tottenham following the Champions League final? Well, there are obviously two different outcomes to the question being asked, however, the answer may not be too dissimilar in terms of what happens.
Clearly, winning the final is what everybody associated with the club wants – that is a given! The benefits of being crowned the best team of European football for the year is something that not many sides ever get the honour of being able to say.
Winning the tournament can rocket Spurs’ reputation within the football world and make them a globally recognised side (if they were not already), whilst it could also have an appeal with fans alike, generating more support from different parts of the globe and line the club’s coffers just that little bit more. Football is not just a sport, it is a business of sorts at the end of the day as well.
Not only will it attract new fans, but it will also give the club a chance to sign some of the world’s best players. They will be more willing to join a club that has proved they can compete with the best and edge out their opponents. Everybody loves a winner, after all.
It might even convince Mauricio Pochettino to stay on at the club and try and help take them to silverware in domestic competition. The Argentine has admitted that he might leave even if they were to win (Mirror).
Surely it is only a matter of time before Spurs can get their hands on the Premier League trophy?! Although you would have to say Manchester City need to slip up big-time!
But, if they were to lose to Liverpool, would it be entirely disastrous for Tottenham? It is unlikely.
Worst case scenario is that Pochettino decides to leave the club and leaves them starting over once again. If the manager admitted that he could leave the club if they win the competition, then what is he going to do if they lose in the final?!
Will losing the match on Saturday have an effect on the players they can sign this summer? Not really. Most, if not all, footballers would have seen their performances in the Champions League semi-final against Ajax and many will have taken note of how well some of the players have developed in north London over the years.
Reaching the final in an elite tournament is still an incredible feat and one that will likely attract a host of names who could help to take Tottenham to the next stage.
So, what does the future hold for Tottenham following the Champions League final? It looks extremely bright regardless of the result – but here’s hoping to a win!
