Inconsistency has cost West Ham United dear this season. Manuel Pellegrini’s first season in charge of the Hammers has been good, however, it could have been a lot better if his side were able to string together a number of positive results.
A number of additions were made last summer, however, almost one year on and the Chilean should have a clearer idea in his head where his side needs improvements next season and one man being linked with a move to the London Stadium could certainly be someone worth thinking about.
According to a report from Calciomercato recently, West Ham are thought to have inserted themselves into the race for Kerem Demirbay this summer and that is not a bad idea.
The Hoffenheim midfielder has been exceptional for the Bundesliga outfit this season in the middle of the park with his ability to find the back of the net and also pick out his team-mates with some clever killer-passes.
The Germany international has four goals and seven assists for the European football-chasing side so far and has been instrumental in keeping them within contention of qualifying for a major club competition next season.
And, he is certainly a player that West Ham could benefit from having in their side in the near future as they look to do what Hoffenheim are trying to do.
With Pellegrini opting to play the likes of Declan Rice and Mark Noble in his midfield, adding some attacking creativity to the team would not be a bad idea, especially with doubts over whether Samir Nasri will remain beyond his short-term deal and his current fitness levels.
Demirbay, who is still only 25-years-old, has great dribbling skills that allow his team-mates to make space and create opportunities for the midfielder to exploit, which is something the Hammers have lacked at stages throughout the campaign.
Not scared of shooting from distance, he also does not give up on his defensive duties either, as he likes to make tackles and can effectively break up the opposition’s play in the middle of the field.
West Ham certainly lack a player of Demirbay’s talent, so David Gold and David Sullivan should look to do all they can to bring the £22.5million-rated midfielder (per Transfermarkt) to the London Stadium in the summer.
So, what does the future hold for Demirbay? Well, West Ham should be hoping that it is with them and helping to take them into European competition.
West Ham fans, do you agree Demirbay’s future should be at the London Stadium? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
