Many would have been surprised in the summer when West Ham United went out and splashed the cash and showed some ambition in the transfer market. It was not something that many have been used to seeing, although it could become normality for the London Stadium outfit in the future.
The club have generally done well with their recruitment, although there are still some obvious flaws in their squad that need addressing. But the acquisition of one man may not have only been what was best to turn things around on the pitch and improve things, but it may have also been the turning point for the Hammers and could start to bring a number of high-profile names to the club.
Felipe Anderson has been nothing short of outstanding during his debut campaign with Manuel Pellegrini’s side. Admittedly, he did start rather slowly, however, he has since found his feet with life in the Premier League and has proved to be a dangerous attacking threat and a difference maker for West Ham.
The Brazilian, who saw his form rewarded with a recall to the national team, has flourished and is destined to continue to do so, as long as the Irons can keep some of Europe’s biggest clubs away from him for as long as possible.
Arguably, he would have been considered somewhat of a genius coup for a team like West Ham and his performances have certainly proved that, however, Pellegrini’s side can use that to their advantage and should look to do so in every transfer window moving forward.
Firstly, David Gold and David Sullivan’s move to sign Anderson shows the ambitions of the club and the fact that they will look to bring players in who would have appeared to be out of their grasps at times. However, it should be the fact that the 25-year-old has played so well that should attract others to join him at the club.
There are not many footballers who would be against a move to a Premier League side, however, given how well their £36million-rated star (Transfermarkt) has performed, West Ham may start to find it easier to attract some other high-profile names to the London Stadium outfit and push on further with their ambitious aims in the future.
West Ham fans, do you think Anderson has helped turn the club into an attractive option for potential signings? Or do you not think he has made a difference in those regards? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
