What Matters Most To A Preston North End Fan!

With pre-season approaching, the return of domestic football is on the horizon and fans are dreaming of success come May 2013.

Euro 2012 is drawing to a close and we’ll turn our attentions back to domestic action, watching how Manchester City set about retaining the Premier League title – but my personal focus will be away from the top division.

As a Preston North End fan, it’s been a difficult few years. We scraped safety under Darren Ferguson before being relegated under Phil Brown, and then almost went down again in League One. New manager Graham Westley has talked a good game so far but the performances on the pitch have been nothing short of abject.

The club demand promotion this year as the wage bill rises, putting us in a perilous position if we don’t return to the Championship this season. Westley has gone on a signing spree and 12 players have already agreed to join his revolution, with more on the way.

I really can’t wait to see how this team of relative strangers will gel and try to work as a team. It might take a while and it’ll be full of ecstasy and disappointment, which fans across the country will go through this season but I’m genuinely hopeful we can make the fans of this great city proud.

The club has a rich tradition and the recent tough times have only made me wish for something better. What matters most to me is that this new team restore the grit, fight and determination I have seen in previous Preston teams and reclaim the tag ‘Proud Preston’. The fans have stayed loyal during a tough period in the club’s history and deserve better.

Having not seen us win a trophy since winning the promotion to the Championship in 2000, seeing the new Preston captain lift the League One trophy aloft is something that I hope to see this year.
