Scousers might remember the 21-year-old Spanish midfielder’s name cropping up this time last year as Rafa Benitez desperately scoured the continent in search of an adequate replacement for Real Madrid bound Xabi Alonso.
Evidently, he didn’t get his man, but Liverpool have renewed their interest in the Athletico BilBao player who has been capped three times by his country. His performances have been limited during the World Cup due to a niggling ankle injury but Man. City and Real Madrid are also rumoured to be in the hunt for the £18m rated midfielder.
