Who’s Got The Reddest Nose In Football?

The worlds of football and celebrity are ones that cross paths with regular occurrence these days. While footballers are now celebrities in their own right, there are also celebrities from other spheres such as TV, film and music, who immerse themselves into the world of football.

The celebrity football fan is just like any other fan – they love football and want their team to do well. The only difference is that they’re in the public eye and their support for their chosen club gets plenty of exposure – something I’m going to further here!

Two UK celebrities who are big football fans are Stephen Fry and Frank Skinner. One half of Fry and Laurie and a legendary British comedian, Stephen Fry has now become even more well known as one of Britain’s leading Tweeters. On Twitter Fry’s support for Norwich City shines through, and last weekend alone he Tweeted ‘And as @AndyWhyteUK reminded me, the biggest of them all *drum roll* Barnsley 0 Norwich 2’. One half of another British comedy duo Baddiel and Skinner, Frank Skinner is arguably the most famous West Brom supporter, although Mr Adrian Chiles might have something to say about that!

While their two teams might be suffering very different fortunes at the moment (West Brom are staring relegation from the Premier League in the face as Norwich are looking to complete back-to-back promotions and make it to England’s top flight), Stephen Fry and Frank Skinner have teamed up with Walkers and are taking part in their ‘Clash of the Comics’ campaign as they look to raise money for Red Nose Day 2011…

The clash between ‘Stephen Fry Up’ and ‘Frank Roast Dinner’ is too close to call, but how do Fry and Skinner fare in the battle to be the top celebrity football fan in the UK? Again, this is a battle with plenty of contenders, including the likes of former Oasis frontmen the Gallagher brothers who are fierce supporters of Manchester City, John McCririck who has plenty of passion for Newcastle, and David Essex who is a West Ham fan born and bred.

So, who do you think is the ultimate celebrity football fan? Remember to take into account their level of celebrity status and the degree of support that they show for their club. In this battle I think Stephen Fry’s Norwich Tweets just edge out Frank Skinner’s support for the Baggies, but who do you think deserves the tag of ‘Britain’s ultimate celebrity football fan’? Leave your thoughts and your nominations in the comments section below…
