We’ll put it down to most of you in the Transfer Tavern having one too many last night, but everyone seems to have forgotten about this man.
Reports from the Daily Star have revealed that four more clubs now want Manchester United man Chris Smalling.
The report has suggested that Leicester, Stoke, Burnley and Crystal Palace are all keen on signing the 27-year-old as well as the Baggies.
Our landlord’s only question is, why aren’t any bigger clubs after the defender?
No offence to the clubs targeting Smalling, but despite him maybe not being good enough for the Manchester United back line following new signings coming in, he still has a lot to offer.
Although it seems unlikely given the relationship between the two clubs, Liverpool could do with another centre-back, and so could their Merseyside rivals Everton.
Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld’s contract negotiations have stalled so they may be in need of a new centre-back soon as well.
Smalling still played 18 Premier League games last season, 14 of the games he missed were down to injury so it is safe to say he was still considered a key player for them last time out.
The former non-league defender is tall, strong, great in the air and has plenty of experience to his game.
Some of the bigger clubs in the league should take notice of this transfer saga, or else they could miss out on an absolute bargain.
