Why Chelsea’s move for this star striker is a waste of time and money

The Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern tonight seem a bit baffled about the latest rumour surrounding their club.

Now this one really confused our landlord. It is most likely just a rumour and nothing more, but reports have surfaced in the last day linking Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero to the Premier League champions, Chelsea.

If this is true and The Blues are interested then our landlord has just one question. Why?

Aged 29, Aguero isn’t getting any younger and whilst he is still a talented forward, the amount Chelsea would have to pay to make City even consider such a move just wouldn’t be worth it for the handful of years they would get the player for.

Also, on the Argentine’s part, why leave City to join a Premier League rival?

Aguero will undoubtedly go down as a Manchester City legend after his years of service in the club’s most successful period in their history.

It just wouldn’t make sense for him to jump ship for a few years.

Back on Chelsea, they have been linked with Alvaro Morata, Andrea Belotti and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang so surely one of these three younger options would be a better bet?

They’re just as talented and have all proven themselves in the big leagues across Europe.

Signing Aguero now would just be a complete waste of time and money, it is likely City will ask for at least £40 million at an absolute minimum, given his quality they could ask for much more.

It isn’t his ability being called into question here, it is how long he’ll have that ability for, sooner or later he will start to slow down, lose some strength and be off the pace a bit.

Do Chelsea want him at the club when that happens?
