‘Why couldn’t it have been Welbeck’ – Arsenal fans react to former star’s great display on Wednesday

Arsenal supporters were pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern on Tuesday night after seeing their side go down 3-1 at Swansea City in the Premier League, yet their mood has drastically improved given their team’s exploits on transfer deadline day.

Arsene Wenger’s men were deservedly beaten by the struggling Swans on Tuesday thanks to a brace from Sam Clucas and a strike from Jordan Ayew, thus putting a huge dent in their hopes of returning to the top four come the end of the season. Nonetheless, those angry Gunners fans were a lot happier on Wednesday after seeing their side seal a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and indeed secure the services of Mesut Ozil on a new contract.

Consequently, there is much more optimism among our resident Arsenal supporters in the Tavern, several of whom are eagerly anticipating their side’s return to action against Sam Allardyce’s Everton on Saturday.

And they will be due to come up against former Gunner Theo Walcott, who of course secured a permanent move to the Toffees earlier this month after finding gametime hard to come by at the Emirates Stadium in the first half of the season.

Yet the England international has hit the ground running at Goodison Park by netting a brace in their 2-1 victory over Leicester City on Wednesday night, a performance which stimulated quite a reaction from Gunners fans on Twitter…
