Everton enjoyed a decent first transfer window under manager Sam Allardyce, adding players in key areas and securing the signing of experienced Premier League goal-getter Theo Walcott along the way.
The Toffees will be looking now to kick on in the second half of the season after what has on the whole, been a disappointing campaign so far following a summer of mass spending in the transfer market.
Here in the Tavern, our landlord and some of the Everton punters were suitably impressed with their window, especially Walcott, who got off to the perfect start this week, bagging two against Leicester City.
However, there’s an element of disappointment among a section of the fans, who thought the club were going to go and spend massive amounts again, and one player they would have liked to have seen walk through the door at Goodison Park is Lyon winger Nabil Fekir.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has been a revelation this season, banging in 16 goals so far to become one of the most coveted players in the game at the moment.
Everton should and possibly could have looked to make a move for Fekir, who will no doubt be on the radar of the some of the big names in the summer, with PSG, Real Madrid, and Man City all the sort of clubs who will swoop if his form continues.
A player like Fekir could have added some serious quality to Sam Allardyce’s ranks, and missing out on him could well come back to bite the Toffees over the course of the coming seasons.
Everton fans, what do you think? Fekir a good player? Let us know your thoughts!
