Matias Suarez is taking Belgium by storm, yet for how long? Having won the player of the year and player of the season awards last year, Suarez has expressed his desire to move onto bigger and better things. With Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool and Bayern Munich all interested in the 24-year-old, Suarez’ dreams could soon come true.
It is Liverpool who has been most heavily linked with the striker however. According to an article by Liverpool Kop, the Reds have been interested in the Argentine since March when both Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli were still at Anfield. Now as Suarez declares his desire to leave, a bid of around €15 million would be enough to prise the attacker from Anderlecht.
Yet is Liverpool the right club? There is no doubt that Suarez is a talented player. The Argentine most notably emerged this season in the Belgium Pro League, with 20 goals and 19 assists, after the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea last summer. He has often been compared to his namesake Luis, who has become a fan favourite since his arrival at Anfield from Ajax. Matias Suarez’ flair and skill on the ball would make him a great addition to the Premier League, especially for such a low price.
For this reason though, Liverpool should not sign the Argentine. The 24-year-old would be a great addition to any Premier League outfit, yet at Anfield there is simply not enough room for the player. Luis has developed into a top Premier League player at Anfield and it is in this role that Matias would have to compete for a place. Even if Luis wasn’t available, the attraction of moving Steven Gerrard higher up the pitch is always there for Brendan Rodgers.
Without a doubt, Matias Suarez is a talented player. Yet there is not room for him at Anfield with Luis still there. In the Uruguayan, Liverpool have found a talent that creates chance for other players whilst scoring goals. What they really need is a regular goal scorer, not a chance maker.
