Tottenham defender Kyle Walker is on the verge of completing a move Manchester City, but Spurs supporters, there’s no need for concern.
The 27-year-old is expected to have a medical and complete the transfer on Friday after the clubs agreed a deal on Wednesday worth £45m, plus £5m add-ons.
A fantastic season last time out saw Spurs come away with the best defensive record in the league, while Walker provided five assists for his teammates.
The right-back, selected in the 2016-17 Premier League team of the year, will become City’s third signing of the summer, with our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern expecting Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy to follow him to the Etihad.
Some punters here in the Tavern are questioning Spurs’ decision to allow the England international to leave, just as Tottenham are gaining some serious momentum.
It is exciting times for the club, but also a precarious circumstance having moved into their temporary home Wembley for the year.
Perhaps keeping their formidable defence would have been the smart move.
However, there’s no need for Spurs fans to worry about losing the Englishman as they possess a readymade replacement in 26-year-old Kieran Trippier.
The former Burnley favourite, who signed for Spurs in 2015 became a bit of an assist machine last season, that’s despite being granted just six Premier League starts.
Trippier impressed every time he put on the Spurs shirt and picked up five assists in the process.
The defender has earned one cap for England so far and now has the opportunity to step up for both club and country following his teammate’s big move.
