Why this £68m-rated hitman would be the ideal Zlatan replacement

The Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern cannot wait to flick through the gossip columns over breakfast everyday to find out who Jose Mourinho could be bringing to the club this summer.

With that in mind, plenty of talk in the bar over the last day-or-so has been centred around reports linking the Red Devils with a move for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish international scored 40 goals in all competitions under Carlo Ancelotti last season, notching three Bundesliga hat-tricks on his way to a fifth German league title.

The 28-year-old has voiced complaints around the support received from teammates along his pursuit of the Golden Boot, which he lost to Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by a single goal.

With that in mind, the general consensus here in the bar is that Mourinho could well offer Lewandowski the focal role he desires with a chance to win the Premier League Golden Boot.

With last season’s top goalscorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic having been released after picking up a long-term injury against Celta Vigo, there is a talisman vacancy at Old Trafford.

At times last season it was left down to the Swede to drag United through games, none more so than in the EFL Cup final where he almost single handedly won Mourinho his first major trophy as Red Devils manager.

With Lewandowski looking for a side that could feed his need for goals, and Mourinho looking for a player who can inspire on the same level as Zlatan, as well as having the confidence and ability to find the back of the net from almost any angle, it seems a match made in heaven.

United fans, we want to hear from you! Do you think Lewandowski could replace Ibrahimovic? Let us know in the comments below…
