The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern think that Harry Winks is one of their most talented players…
The Englishman’s development has been stunted by a couple of unfortunate injury blows, but he looks fit and ready to perform well this season, and there is no doubting that he will grab his chance with two hands if he gets it.
Against Huddersfield this weekend, it could be the perfect opportunity for him to get that chance.
Rated at £3.6 million by Transfer Markt, he isn’t the most recognisable name in the Tottenham squad, nor is he the best, but what he is is one of Pochettino’s most talented young players. He has a very bright future ahead of him, and the only way he’ll be able to capitalise on his quality is by playing regular football.
He doesn’t look out of place in the team, either. After featuring against APOEL int he Champions League in place of Mousa Dembele, the Englishman impressed – delivering a performance that even his Belgian rival would be proud of. He controlled the game from the midfield, and Pochettino couldn’t have asked for any more from his young midfielder. The perfect reward for that performance would be to offer him another chance this weekend.
The stage could be set for that to happen, too. Dembele may be unable to feature again if he doesn’t recover in time, and Winks is the perfect replacement. Whilst Dier and Wanyama offer defensive solidity, Winks – like Dembele – offers an outlet for the defence and an opportunity for a transition into the attack.
It’s Pochettino’s call, but it’s a decision that makes sense.
