Why Tottenham simply can’t afford to lose Danny Rose to injury

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are sweating on the fitness of Danny Rose…

The Englishman was forced off with an injury against Sunderland, and whilst his fitness has yet to be confirmed – the Tottenham fans are seriously concerned.

After all, on a basic level, Danny Rose has been impressive this season. Both defensively and offensively the Englishman is absolutely vital. Defensively, he offers expert tackling and tracking back, whilst offensively his incredible pace and pinpoint crossing is so often the precursor to Tottenham goals on a near-weekly basis.

Tottenham’s defence is, arguably, the most impressive in the Premier League – and the fact that it has remained unchanged for nearly 2 seasons is not something that should be ignored. Danny Rose, though only a part of the defence, is key – and he has formed an excellent partnership with his two central defenders alongside him.

Ben Davies is, of course, the natural replacement for Danny Rose – but there are more than a few question marks over the defender. If he was good enough to play every week for a top club, the simple fact is that he would be – and there is a reason as to why he isn’t getting in ahead of Danny Rose.

He is a decent player in his own right, but he isn’t on Rose’s level – and that can only be a bad thing for Tottenham. What’s more, Tottenham’s quick passing, high pressing style is not suited to the Welshman, and whilst he is a useful player to have – Tottenham are undoubtedly a worse side whenever Rose isn’t in the team.

At this point of the season, Tottenham can’t afford to change things up. Their defence has remained untouched for months, and if Rose is out for a long period of time – that could spell disaster.
