Why Tottenham simply must sign Everton midfielder Ross Barkley this month

With transfer season well underway, the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting Mauricio Pochettino to bring a few players to White Hart Lane over the next few weeks…

The Lilywhites have had a decent few weeks, and Pochettino will surely be looking to continue that forward momentum – and a few new signings could be the perfect way to make that happen.

A number of players have been linked over the last few days, but there is one name that could be absolutely perfect. According to the Sun, Tottenham remain keen on Everton midfielder Ross Barkley – and if Mauricio Pochettino can make that deal happen, it could prove to be the deal of the month.

Sure, the young English midfielder has not been on the best run of form as of late, with Ronald Koeman’s failing to capitalise on Barkley’s potential – but the talent is still there. He is raw and inexperienced, but in terms of the mental and technical side of the game – there are few better players in the Premier League.

A dynamic attacking midfielder, Barkley is able to produce passes and chances out of nothing – and he has established quite the reputation as a game changer in the Football Transfer Tavern.

He hasn’t reached his potential as of yet, but there is no better manager in the Premier League at helping young players that Mauricio Pochettino. A number of young English players have made the switch to Tottenham in recent years, with the likes of Dele Alli and Eric Dier emerging as two of Europe’s finest youngsters – and Barkley could be next in line. Pochettino has a faith and reliance upon young players unlike any other Premier League boss – and he could finally be the manager to bring the best out of young Barkley.

Now, Tottenham do have a lot of players in his role – but Barkley could build quite the partnership with compatriot Dele Alli, and his ability to play across the front 3 could allow Barkley to gain a foothold within Tottenham’s first team. Add to that reports suggesting that Alli could move to La Liga, and the idea of signing Barkley is quickly becoming plausible.

When Barkley emerged as a teenager, he was touted as England’s best young talent. He still has all that talent, and all he needs is a manager to unlock it. Mauricio Pochettino is, undoubtedly, the best manager for the job in the Premier League, and if he can land Barkley for a good price – it could prove to be the deal of the month. Would he play every week straight away? Of course not – but in a few years, he could be incredible.
