Why West Brom swapping Saido Berahino for Christian Benteke would be a great move by Pulis

The West Brom fans in the Transfer Tavern would love to see Christian Benteke come to the Hawthorns…

If the Daily Star are to be believed, Christian Benteke and West Brom forward Saido Berahino could be the subject of a swap deal between Palace and the Baggies – with Tony Puilis reportedly keen to bolster his attacking options.

Sam Allardyce, meanwhile, is looking to cut down his wages and generate funds – with Christian Benteke potentially facing the chop.

Whilst on the surface the move seems unlikely, for Tony Pulis – it could very well be the best decision he makes all year.

Saido Berahino, though a talented forward, is, at this point, simply not worth the trouble. He has made just 3 starts in the Premier League, with Pulis deciding to not play the 23-year-old – and he has yet to score all season.

When he first burst onto the scene, he was a revelation – and quickly backed up the hype with 14 Premier League goals – but since
then, it has all been downhill.

Christian Benteke, meanwhile, has proven quite the hit since swapping Merseyside for London. The Belgian has picked up 8 goals so far this year after moving from Liverpool – with the Eagles building their side around the deadly forward at present.

Currently 26-years-old, Benteke is in the prime of his career – and he is arguably the perfect attacking forward. Aerially dominant, prolific in front of goal and a hard worker to match – Benteke has it all.

In many ways, the duo are the complete opposites of each other. Benteke, by all accounts, is a popular, hard-working figure – and whilst we don’t know what has gone on behind the scenes at West Brom, Saido Berahino certainly does not come across like that.

If the Daily Star’s report is to be believed, and Sam Allardyce wants to cut down his wage his wage bill – Benteke is a genuine potential casualty¬†– and Tony Pulis could look to pounce. The reality is that the Baggies would need to cough up a bit of money, given that Berahino’s contract expires at the end of the season – but the player that they get would be well worth it.

Arguably one of the Premier League’s best, if West Brom manage to land Benteke – it could revolutionise their season.
