Wigan fans in the Tavern will be delighted to hear that their team are set to beat Liverpool to the signing of Dan Lavercombe, if reports by the Express are to believed.
The Torquay United goalkeeper has been very highly regarded after he broke into Torquay’s first team squad. It is also believed that Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton Wanderers are among the clubs who have shown a firm interest in the 18 year old, who is a product of the Gulls Academy.
However, the Latics are now set to win the race to sign the youngster, before being expected to loan him back to the National League strugglers until the end of the season.
The news will come as a massive blow to a Liverpool side who thought that they would be able to tempt him move to Anfield with the allure of working under Jürgen Klopp. The Reds took Lavercombe on a close-season tour of Germany with their youth team squad last summer just after he made his debut for The Gulls.
Our landlord believes that the young goalkeeper has made the right decision in moving to Wigan over Liverpool, with the player unlikely to come close to the number 1 jersey at Anfield soon.
