There seems to be plenty of stories centering around loan moves reaching us here in the Football Transfer Tavern, and Si Hughes of The Telegraph reckons Roberto Martinez is about to secure two for his struggling Wigan Athletic team.
Martinez has seen his side slip to second bottom of the table in recent weeks, and is desperate to strengthen his defence following injuries to Spaniard Ivan Ramis and Paraguayan Antolin Alcaraz.
Sebastian Coates of Liverpool and Ronald Zubar from Wolverhampton Wanderers are his top targets to bring in on loan, as the Latics look to plot another great escape.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed he is happy to let Coates go out on loan, with the Uruguayan defender currently fourth choice at Anfield behind Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel and Jamie Carragher, with the player making just one league start all season.
Martinez has admitted he is looking for players with Premier League experience to help his side avoid relegation.
“It is difficult for a foreign player to come in in January and make an impact,” he said.
Any move for Coates may be rivalled by West Bromwich Albion however, with reports in the Daily Mirror last week suggesting that Steve Clarke was keen on being reunited with the defender he coached at Anfield last season whilst acting as Kenny Dalglish’s number two.
