The Aston Villa fans are gathered around the jukebox in The Transfer Tavern this evening discussing comments made by their former assistant manager about the club’s plight.
Talksport conducted an interview with Ray Wilkins who feels the club would have had a better chance of survival had they stuck by Tim Sherwood.
Sherwood was sacked and replaced by Frenchman Remi Garde, and with just two wins coming from Garde’s time in charge he found himself sacked during the international break. Speaking about Villa, Wilkins said :
“Yes, I believe we could have kept them up. We never got trounced. We never got badly beaten. I think we were just on the brink of doing really well.”
“We played some very tough opponents in the early stages of the season and we’re probably one of the only teams who had the opportunity to beat Leicester. I honestly feel that with the staff and the players we had that we could have staved off relegation.”
The Aston Villa fan in The Tavern do not agree with Wilkins and think no matter what the club were set for relegation early on.
