‘Will always be one of us’ – Liverpool fans upset over latest transfer update

Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are absolutely devastated at the prospect of Lucas Leiva leaving the club this summer.

The Brazilian midfielder first arrived in 2007 and has gone on to make 344 appearances for the Reds. While his style of play restricted how many goals he scored, Lucas did manage to bag seven goals all of which will definitely long live in the memory of the punters at the bar.

He managed 31 games last season but due to a threat of reduced playing time next season the 30-year-old has deemed it necessary to seek first-team football elsewhere.

He hasn’t played for Brazil since 2013 so his chances of claiming a spot in his nation’s World Cup squad for next summer are admittedly slim, but to give himself the best chance of a return to the set-up he needs to be playing every week, something which wasn’t guaranteed at Liverpool.

His reported departure to Lazio, according to Gianluca DiMarzio, is likely to set the Serie A club back £5 million.

It’s safe to say Liverpool fans are absolutely gutted about his exit. Here’s what a few of them had to say on Twitter:
