Will Bayern’s €20M Bid Scupper Arsene’s Plans To Land A Top Top Defender?

Les Transferts are suggesting that Arsenal could be tempted to make a bid for Chelsea defender Alex.

The Brazilian has been linked with several clubs such as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint Germain as he is widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

The interest in the player has forced Arsene Wenger to consider making a swoop for the defender as he looks to bolster his back four in time for next season. There has been constant criticism of the Arsenal defence for several seasons now and Wenger feels Alex could be the player to bring some steal to their pretty passing game.

His ability from set pieces is also an attraction to the Arsenal boss.

Mr Wenger would most likely have to dip his hands into Stan Kroenke’s pockets if he is to sign Alex as Bayern are willing to make their interest formal with a £20Million bid, according to reports. There are questions as to whether the Arsenal boss would be willing to spend so much on one player, particularly a defender, as it would go against his ‘philosophy’ in the transfer market.

Alex would be a good signing for the club and his experience would add to the youthfulness of the Arsenal set up. The 29-year-old defender may be older than such reported targets as Gary Cahill but his history in competitions such as the Champions League makes him a much more suited option.

With Manchester City and Liverpool constantly improving, Arsenal need to keep up and going for players like Christopher Samba and Gary Cahill just isn’t good enough.

If Arsene Wenger really wants to compete for major honours than sorting out the current defence is a necessity and a partnership of Thomas Vermaelen and Alex could be the solution.!/AlunLUHG
