Will Chelsea & Liverpool Think £16M Is Too Steep For An Untested Talent?

The Daily Mail suggest Partizan Belgrade’s 18-year-old attacking midfielder Lazar Markovic is very much the man in demand at the moment.

They report Liverpool have been tracking the Serbian’s progress but now it seems Chelsea are in the driving seat for the prospects signature.

Partizan Belgrade value the Serbian playmaker at a pretty hefty £16m but also want a season long loan deal back to Partizan as part of the deal.

Partizan are currently managed by former Chelsea boss Avram Grant who apparently personally recommended Markovic to Chelsea which first alerted them to his talent.

The 18-year-old has scored 6 times in 26 matches for Partizan but sees himself more as a midfield playmaker rather then goal scorer, a traditional number 10 if you will.

I normally enjoy teams and especially Chelsea signing young prospects and watching them develop, however, I do have an air of sceptism over this deal.

£16m is a hefty fee for a relatively unknown quantity and following the unsuccessful £18m deal for Lukaku – who has never been given a sniff to prove his worth – the signing of De Bruyne who I know went back on loan but with the signing of Marin I don’t seem him featuring much next season anyway. Even McEachran can’t get a chance to prove himself so I wonder whether a move to Chelsea is really best for either party.

I would like us to bed in some of our promising youngsters such as Piazon and the ones mentioned above. Manchester United and Arsenal are reaping the benefits of young talents such as Welbeck and Chamberlain and I’d like us to take some risks on youngsters as well.

Obviously I think we need to keep the experienced players also as they have proved their worth in the FA Cup and Champions League this year but a couple of bright rising stars would be nice.
