Germany Champions Bayern Munich look set to bolster their striker force (actually, is Dirk still a striker????) as they are rumoured in the German press to have stepped up their interest in Liverpool’s Dutch star, Dirk Kuyt.
Dirk has certainly improved as a player since converting to the right-wing birth, however Roy Hodgson sees bringing in a more conventional winger as a priority and that would leave Kuyt fighting for a strikers birth.
Although Liverpool have a lack of numbers, as well as talent, up front, Kuyt has developed a trait since his move out wide to get overexcited at any shooting chance that comes his way and blaze it miles over the bar as he smashes the cover off the thing. Add this to Liverpool’s interest in Cluj striker, Lacina Traore, who Kenny Dalglish saw play against Munich and Kuyt could be joining compatriot Ryan Babel on the next plane out of John Lennon Airport.
Liverpool could well want anywhere up to £15m for Kuyt due to his performances of late and the fact Bayern face competition from both Inter Milan and Roma for his signature could mean it drives the price even higher, particularly when you consider that the later could throw Phillipe Mexes into the deal. Mexes being someone Hodgson was interested before Carraghers injury and will be even more interested in since.
The simple fact is that, no matter how many different shaped holes Kuyt can force himself to fit into, his sale could well fund players much more suited to fitting each position and might bag Hodgson that man Mexes to boot.
