Will Levy Squash Luka Modric’s Latest Mutiny?

Luka Modric, a name synonymous with fantastic football and drawn out transfer sagas. The Croatian himself appears as eager to open another summer of speculation regarding his future as he is to open defences during the season.

Spurs’ midfield maestro is, according to reports in The Mail , unwilling to be drawn on his future until after this summer’s European Championship.

After Tottenham successfully kept their man and fended off the advances of Chelsea last summer Spurs will have been hoping that Modric was ready to concentrate on his football at White Hart Lane after shrugging off his disappointment at not been allowed the transfer he pined for to produce another impressive season. However the Daily Mirror quote Modric as once again fueling uncertainty around his future:

‘I will decide about my future after the Euros.

‘I will make the decision where to continue my career. I’m ready for the big tests.’

Modric’s comments provide further unwanted uncertainty around White Hart Lane, and threaten a repeat of last summer’s saga when Modric at one point asked to be excused from playing duties.

The speculation surrounding Harry Redknapp’s future correlating with the downturn in Tottenham’s results highlights how Spurs can do without unsettling speculation, and if Modric is going to continue to add fuel to the fire it could be in Spur’s best interests to offload a player that may unsettle dressing room moral.

Modric claims he is ready for the big tests, Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham side certainly are. The big test Modric craves must surely be to challenge for the games top honours and it can be argued that only Manchester City in the Premiership have a squad better placed to compete on all fronts.

If Redknapp and Levy could source a replacement for the want away midfielder Tottenham would free themselves of an unsettling distraction from on the field matters and could use the funds to find the final pieces of the jigsaw to allow the club to progress to become genuine title contenders.
