Manchester City are set to exploit Valencia’s financial problems once again with a £30 million bid for Juan Mata. The winger has been the interest of Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool in previous times but Man City are the only ones prepared to meet the asking price.
Mancini has been scouting the player for months and firmly believes the player has what it takes to be a success in the Premier League. Mata is talked about in his homeland as a player who can be an even better one than David Silva. The 22 year old is now the fan favourite at the Mestalla since the departures of David Silva and David Villa.
A clever player, he possesses great pace, intelligence, and goal scoring ability and is in a similar mould to Silva. While featuring prominently as a left winger he can also be deployed as an attacking midfielder behind the striker. He has featured 10 times for his country at senior level.
However is this player really what City need? They have wingers a plenty in Silva, Johnson, Milner and Tevez operates wide in a 4-3-3 to accommodate Dzeko. Perhaps if they played 4-4-2 with Silva one side and Mata on the other with Dzeko and Tevez up front? But will players such as James Milner, Adam Johnson and Mario Balotelli be content with a place on the bench?
As always the summer will be an interesting one for Man City fans with no doubt a few comings and goings. Mancini, if still employed at the club, will have to juggle his pack once again to find the right players and the right formation for his stars.
