Will Mike Ashley Be Able To Resist Cashing In?

Newcastle United new number 9 and scoring sensation Papiss Cisse has set the Premier League on fir since his January arrival on Tyneside scoring 13 goals in as many matches!

It’s inevitable that a striker of his quality will attract interest this summer but who would have thought it would be from Spanish giants and La Liga champions Real Madrid…

The Senegalese hit-man has scored some sensational strikes this season, including a great side foot finish at Swansea and two wonder goals at Stamford Bridge.

Italian media claim Real Madrid and Manchester City value Cisse at around £13.5m which would hand Newcastle a £4.5m profit on their forward in just over 5 months.

This valuation seems quite low considering his performances and goal scoring record for Freiburg and Newcastle and I don’t believe Newcastle would be tempted by this offer. An offer of between £20-25m on the other hand may have Mike Ashley thinking.

Sky Sports Paul Merson made an interesting point on the weekend, he pointed out that 90% of Cisse’s 13 goals have been wonder strikes and he doesn’t seem to score a tap in which is bread and butter for prolific strikers.

Wonder strikes don’t last forever and when they dry up does Cisse possess that goal scoring instinct of say a Michael Owen or Van Nistelrooy?

Newcastle fans would be angry I’m sure if the already unpopular Mike Ashley sold Cisse this summer but does Merson’s comments strike a cord with any of the Newcastle fans?

Newcastle seem to have a fantastic scouting network and a knack of picking up little gems for next to no money. I’m sure Cisse would be a loss to Newcastle but I’m equally as certain that at the right price Newcastle could use that money to find someone as good if not better, maybe someone who possesses a goal scoring instinct.
