Not if you’re anything like Gavin Strachan, Darren Ferguson, Paul Dalglish or Danny Greaves that’s for sure.
Enter young Oliver Lee who will be hoping that he fits more into the category of Frank Lampard and Jamie Redknapp in doing rather better at emulating his father, Rob’s success on the pitch.
Tall and athletic, The Hammers’ U18s captain signed professional forms only last summer and is hoping to break into a similar mould as Scott Parker as Upton Park’s lynchpin and playmaker.
Unfortunately for Oliver, however, his attempts to breakthrough into the first team last season were hampered by a bout of glandular fever whilst the arrival of seasoned players such as Thomas Hitzelberger is likely to keep him frozen out on the sidelines for just a bit longer. A loan move to the lower reaches of the Football League would now seem far more likely.
Lee Snr had better watch out though as despite his 21 England caps and lengthy career in the top flight with Newcastle, he might just find himself playing second fiddle to the fruits of his loins in the not too distant future.
