After missing out on certain targets during the summer, Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez will be keen to see arrivals once the transfer window opens next week.

And one area of the Magpies' squad the Spaniard could look to strengthen is the left-back position with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt's Jetro Willems reportedly being lined up.

The Breakdown

According to Football Insider, Newcastle have already made an approach for Willems, though AS Roma are also said to be interested in the Dutchman's services.

Newcastle, though, would be wise to do their best to beat off any competition for the 24-year-old's signature.

With Paul Dummett the only real option Benitez has at left-back, the Tyneside club could desperately do with someone coming in to add some depth to that department.

And £5.85m-rated (Transfermarkt) Willems could be the perfect candidate. At PSV Eindhoven, the Netherlands international was seen as an individual with massive potential before his transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt last summer where he has also impressed.

On top of Willems, Newcastle could also probably do with another attacking player coming in as well with Benitez's side often lacking that bit of extra quality going forward.

That and the addition of Willems could be enough to lighten the mood of Benitez, who has been unhappy with Mike Ashley's dealings in recent transfer windows.
