The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned about the prospect of losing Willian this summer. According to Sky Sports News, the Brazilian could look to quit Stamford Bridge this summer if Antonio Conte doesn’t leave the club.
Replacing him, if he does depart, would be no easy feat for the Blues – but our landlord thinks that 21-year-old academy product Izzy Brown could be a good choice.
He’s had a season fraught by injury, but it’s evident that he’s good enough for the top flight.
Brown was a star for the Chelsea developmental system prior to a continuing his training away from Stamford Bridge. An attacking midfielder by trade, he stood out for his brilliant dribbling, technical skill and his offensive pedigree, and that led to the awarding of several trophies – notably two FA Youth Cups and one UEFA Youth League.
He’s since moved out away from the club, and he’s enjoyed a lot of success in that regard too. A loan to Huddersfield last season was an extremely positive step for him, as he played a crucial part in their promotion to the English Premier League. He picked up 4 league goals for the club.
He continued that fine form with Brighton earlier this season prior to suffering a campaign-ending injury, and he looked more than comfortable in the English top flight. A strong and willing runner with a real eye for a pass, he continued to develop into the offensive master that the Chelsea coachees knew he could be.
Now, though, hee’s at a crossroads in his career. At 21-years-old, it’s make or break for his time at Chelsea, and with Willian potentially facing the exit door, perhaps he deserves the chance to impress.
If his previous form is anything to go by, he’s sure to be a hit.
