Winks’ return to training is Tottenham fans’ greatest source of good news

Harry Winks hasn’t had the rub of the green when it comes to injuries. The young midfielder would have been hoping to have a place in the World Cup squad this summer after the way he was playing before his injury. However, it wasn’t to be and an ankle problem saw him miss a lot of last season, scuppering his England chances, however, he’s now back in training and ready to prove a point.

Winks is one of three senior layers to be returning to training, alongside fellow academy graduate Josh Onomah and feisty Argentinian winger Erik Lamela. No disrespect to Onomah or Lamela, but the fans are all buzzing to see Winks back in action. The tidy midfielder is capable of playing as a defensive midfielder or a bit higher up the pitch in central midfielder and is comfortable in a two-man pivot and in a midfield three.

The club failed to sign a single player during the transfer window and with a large number of fans believing that recruiting anew central midfielder was crucial, the return of Tottenham’s 22-year-old Hemel Hempstead born academy graduate is going to make plenty of Lillywhites very happy. The supporters aren’t expecting Winks to slot straight in from the start against Fulham on Saturday, but they will be keen to see him back in the eleven as soon as possible.
