West Ham United have started to turn things around when it comes to results on the field, however, things were not always rosy for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
The London Stadium outfit had started the Premier League season with four defeats and had conceded 10 goals in those games.
Although things have since turned around, it would have been fair to say that the Hammers had been missing Winston Reid on the pitch.
The New Zealand international has not been able to feature for West Ham since March with a knee injury and has been a blow to the Irons ever since.
“Everything is going well,” he confirmed to the club’s official website.
“Obviously, when you have an operation you never know how things are going to look on the other side, but it’s going better than we thought so that’s positive.
“Obviously it is frustrating to be out for long periods of time, especially with the way it happened, but you have to get through it and you have to deal with it.”
Although Reid is yet to make it back out onto the training pitch, the positivity around his progress will be pleasing for those at West Ham.
The defender had been a crucial member of the side and would have likely been seen as an integral member of Pellegrini’s squad, should he have been available for selection at any point.
West Ham have the likes of Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena filling in at the moment and both are excelling at the back in Reid’s absence, however, once he is able to make a return to first-team action, he will likely be competing hard to win his place back in the team.
With all three being available and playing at their best, that can only spell good news for West Ham and their fans.
