‘Wise comments’ – Chelsea fans on Twitter loving Conte’s thoughts on the Champions League

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments from their Italian gaffer as he claimed that winning a cup competition is “totally different” to winning a league as with the Premier League you have to be consistent over 38 league games. Conte will be welcoming Liverpool to Stamford Bridge on Sunday as the Blues look to chase down a spot in the top four.

The Chelsea fans propping our bar up need to beat Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to have any hope of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. As far as Champions League goes, Liverpool aren’t worried about next season, the Reds take on Real Madrid in just over three weeks time in Kiev as they look to win the trophy for the 6th time in their history.

Antonio Conte has been somewhat belittling the achievement of reaching a Champions League final, claiming that a cup run is very different to winning a domestic league. In some sense, the Italian gaffer is right as to win the Premier League a side has to dominate over a 38 week period as opposed to playing six group games and then three two-legged knockout fixtures before the final. Either way, Champions League qualification is key for the Blues who still have an outside chance if they can beat Liverpool on Sunday.
