West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are buzzing with the latest news coming out of the club, their managerial hunt is nearing a conclusion.
David Moyes was allowed to leave the club despite saving the club from relegation after replacing Slaven Bilic in November. The former Everton manager was not given a chance to take the club forward with the Hammers interested in Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez instead. Now, however, it seems former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini will take charge instead.
The 64-year-old lifted the title during his time with the Citizens and would be a stellar appointment by the West Ham board. He has a crucial transfer window ahead of him as he looks to lift the Hammers away from the bottom half of the table. The Chilean would be smart to look to his former club for some new recruits.
Naturally, Yaya Toure has been linked with a move to the London Stadium after announcing he would depart the club at the end of the season. However, Pellegrini should instead target youngster Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Valued at £5.4m by Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old made 14 appearances under Pep Guardiola and is believed to be offered in a makeweight deal to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho. The Ukrainian can play in midfield or at left-back making him a versatile option for the Hammers. City may not allow him to leave on a permanent so West Ham should chase a loan deal.
With plenty of pace and excellent control, the youngster has a great range of passing and reads the game well to track back defensively. He has a sweet left foot and would be an astute piece of business by Pellegrini.
