He’s flavour of the month, he’s what every manager really wants for Christmas; wherever you look today, Denilson is rumoured to be leaving Arsenal and heading for another one of Europe’s top clubs.
Our story begins in Denilson’s native Brazil, where the player first sowed the seeds for all today’s transfer talk. Speaking to newspaper O Globo, the midfielder was quoted as saying:
“I am presently happy with Arsenal, but I am a professional player and I can never discard anything in my future”.
Not exactly a come-and-get-me plea, but certainly enough to interest any manager who would like to have him in their team.
Our very own Guardian takes the lead, believing Denilson will be offered to Ajax in January, as part of a deal to bring Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez to the Emirates. However, as Wenger has once again made it very clear that he will not be making any major signings next month, this story seems a tad unlikely.
Aha, but they’ve thought of that; in case he doesn’t go to Arsenal, Denilson may in fact go to Barcelona instead, after Arsenal thwarted the Catalan giants’ attempts to sign Cesc Fabregas.
I’m sorry, but Denilson is no substitute for Fabregas, and if Barca want Cesc, sooner or later they’ll get him. For now, I think they’ll cope with Xavi, Busquets and Iniesta.
A far more likely story comes from Germany, with fussballtransfers.com reporting Steve McClaren wants to bring Denilson to VfL Wolfsburg for £11m. A believable transfer sum, a realistic destination; my money’s on this one.
So there you have it: Denilson to Wolfsburg in January, for £11m.
