Player recruitment is certainly one of the things that have been done correctly at Wolverhampton Wanderers over recent transfer windows.
A close relationship with super agent Jorge Mendes is always beneficial and it appears that the Premier League side has managed to thrive from the partnership. However, it appears it could also appear that he holds all the cards regarding one particular target for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
What’s the News?
According to Greek media publication FosOnline, Wolves are interested in signing Daniel Podence this summer.
The Olympiacos winger has been impressive this season, having scored eight goals and has provided his team-mates with nine assists in his debut season.
However, it is claimed a deal could depend on Mendes, with the super agent having a ‘100%’ say in what happens to his client and is believed to have sent Podence to Athens instead of Molineux last summer.
It is hardly a surprise to hear that Mendes is heavily involved with another potential Wolves transfer target, especially considering how fruitful their relationship has been over the past couple of seasons.
However, that is something that could obviously work in their favour and the agent will have likely been pleased with how his clients are doing at Molineux, so it should not be too much of a concern.
Podence has been impressive with Olympiacos and there is no reason as to why he could not take to life in the Premier League as he has plenty of attributes that will put him in good stead. The 23-year-old is technically gifted, can dribble extremely well with the ball at his feet and can play a killer through ball to the attackers, which is something Raul Jimenez could thrive upon.
The Portuguese winger can play on either flank, which will help Nuno have more depth and choice to choose from, especially on the right-hand side as it has proved to be a problem area at times.
Should he complete a move to Wolves in the summer, it really should not come as a surprise and it would not be difficult to see this one happen.
Wolves fans, do you think Podence could be a hit at Molineux like Mendes’ other clients? Are you concerned over the influence the agent might have? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
