Wolves landing £16.2m-rated midfielder would secure PL survival next season

The Wolves fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to their return to the Premier League next season following a thoroughly enjoyable campaign in the Championship.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have dominated the second-tier of English football this season and will deservedly finish the campaign as champions. The club will shortly begin making plans for their promotion and identify a handful of players who can help them to re-establish themselves as a solid top-flight club following a 6-year absence.

The quality of Wolves’ performances this season suggests the current squad will be capable of steering clear of the relegation zone, but a handful of new acquisitions will certainly do wonders for their prospects. With that being said, it’s no surprise that recent reports from The Sun which suggest Wolves are set to make a summer bid for Stoke Cit’s Joe Allen (valued at £16.2 million by Transfermarkt) have been met with delight by the resident Wanderers propping up our bar.

With the Potters looking destined to drop into the Championship this season, the report suggests that Wolves will bid £20 million for Allen’s services this summer to offer him an opportunity to continue playing his trade in the top-flight next season. Considering Allen’s level of quality and Premier League experience, it would be a wise decision for Wolves to secure his services during the summer, and his presence could prove to be the difference between survival and relegation.

Allen has been underrated by supporters and pundits during his Premier League career, as his quality in a box-to-box midfield role has been one of the few shining lights within a dark season for Stoke City so far. The 28-year-old midfielder – affectionately dubbed as the Welsh Xavi – has the ability to influence the game at both ends of the pitch.

His tenacious attitude combined with his intelligent positioning make him a nightmare for midfielders to play against, whilst his range of passing provides Stoke with a creative outlet in the heart of midfield. Quite simply, Allen would be a fantastic addition to Santo’s side, and if Stoke are relegated this season they would be foolish not to sign him.

Wolves face a tough task in ensuring their Premier League survival on their return next season, but Allen’s arrival would give them a huge opportunity to achieve their ultimate ambition.
