Wolves have been linked by the News of the World with a move for Preston North End’s versatile defender Eddie Nolan, 21. The former Blackburn Rovers player is one of Preston’s most promising players and they would be unwilling to let him go but Wolves are thought to be preparing a 500k bid as they seek to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season.
Nolan, a full international for the Republic of Ireland is highly rated and it is no surprise that he is getting attention from the Premier League. The player only signed for Preston last January and having signed a three-and-a-half year deal, the club will be in no hurry to cash in on the youngster.
Wolves are struggling in the Premier League, they are currently in the relegation zone and have conceded an ominous 28 goals in 15 league games. Their defence has not looked capable of handling the calibre of attackers on show in the Premier League and Mick McCarthy is thought to regard Eddie Nolan as a possible solution to his sides defensive woes.
Nolan may well be interested in a move, the chance to play in the Premier League is difficult to turn down but with Preston only 5 points away from the play-off positions he may decide to stay and try to achieve promotion with his current side. If an official bid is made, the youngster will have a decision to make but his manager Alan Irvine has made it clear that he is not willing to part with his young starlet.
